Aworkshop was organized by the extended project team of the Leading UniversityProject for International Cooperation (LUPIC) from October 13 -19 in Changwonnational university of South Korea. From Nepal, four Vice Chancellors: Prof.Amma Raj Joshi of Far Western University, Prof. Nand Bahadur Singh of Mid-WestUniversity, Prof. Prem Narayan Aryal of Pokhara University, Prof. Yadav RajKoirala of Purbanchal University and the registrar of Open University Dr.Govinda Singh Bista visited Changwon University, Daegu University, Daegu CyberUniversity and Kwang Myung School (school for the differently able children).
LUPIChas supported Nepali universities to run Special Needs Education, completedspecial education teachers’ training project and is still expanding the numberof cooperative universities in Nepal. It has also been providing opportunity tospecial education teachers every year to pursue PhD research degree in specialeducation in Korean Universities.
LUPICas an extended project aims to support the cooperative universities toestablish, operate and develop special needs education departments in TribhuvanUniversity, Far Western University, Mid-west University, Pokhara University,Purbanchal University and Open University, to implement a higher educationsystem that fulfills the demand of special education experts in Nepal in astable and regular manner by establishing undergraduate, graduate, Master’s anddoctoral research program, to increase the access of students with disabilityto special education, to ensure that all the children with disabilities havethe right to acquire education in Nepal and to enable teachers to conductresearch and gain international exposure and expertise so that they can developexciting and relevant curriculum andinnovative pedagogic methods at home.
Thedelegation team visited Prof. Lee Hoyoung, the President of Changwon University,Prof. Soon-Jin Park, the President of Daegu University and prof. Jung Dae Young,the Director of Leading University Project for International Cooperation intheir respective offices on October 17, 2022. During the visit, each member ofthe Nepali delegation team and the presidents of the supporting Koreanuniversities shared experiences of special education of the respectiveuniversity. Korean University presidents revealed their interest and readinessto support Nepali universities in special and inclusive education. Thedelegation team visited Changwon National University and Daegu University,observed their system and facilities. The team was impressed by the support ofthe Korean government to develop universities as the centers of learning,research, innovation and development.
